The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is Kenya’s main government agency for medical and public health research. It was established in 1979 and operates under the Science, Technology and Innovation Act as the national body responsible for human health research in Kenya.

Research Officer (NEWRISK) (1 post)

Location: Kilifi

Responsibilities: Contribute to the development, implementation and review of research protocols related to NEWRISK WP4 that are aligned to the Project’s strategic goals and objectives. Participate in data collection, analysis, storage and interpretation of the NEWRISK WP4 Project data to identify insights. Develop, plan and implement community and stakeholder engagement activities in NEWRISK study areas as per the project community engagement and involvement (CEI) Gantt Chart

Administrative Assistant (1 post)

Location: Kisumu County

Responsibilities: Coordinate all project supplies for PBIDS 2.0 supported activities in the main sites – Kisumu, Nairobi and Isiolo and additional Detect sites. Ensure frequent update of stock database to show both stock-in and out. Assist in verification of invoices and bills from the field office before payments are made. Participate in preparation of budget on project supplies, workshops and conferences, study participants’ reimbursements and request on transport. Document project vehicle mileage, track and update reports on vehicle maintenance.

Laboratory Technologist (1 post)

Location: Isiolo County

Responsibilities: Receive and consent participants referred to the Eremet onsite laboratory for specimen collection. Perform phlebotomy and prepare samples for investigation purposes. Collect oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swabs as required. Accurately label and analyze samples (blood, NP/OPs, tissue etc.) Proper documentation of applicable study data during all study procedures. Perform routine maintenance of lab equipment.

Senior Laboratory Analyst (Laboratory Manager) (1 post)

Location: Kisumu County

Responsibilities: Verifying, approving and recording laboratory findings. Supervising the disinfection, washing and sterilization of apparatus; and maintaining equipment and reagents. Archiving specimens of medical importance for reference. Preparing periodical reports. Preparing requisitions for procuring laboratory equipment, chemicals, stains and reagents. Maintaining laboratory registers and recording analyzed samples. Supervising laboratory staff and students on attachment. Screen and assign work load, plan, prioritize and assign tasks and projects.

Location: Nairobi County

Responsibilities: To attend departmental and programme scientific meetings, including Programme seminars and regular meetings of the Social Science Group. And any other duties that may be assigned from time to time. To contribute to the development of research proposal as needed, including through reviewing literature and synthesizing learning from reviews and supporting the development of data collection tools. To contribute to the management and analysis of data from the study and take primary responsibility for analysis in designated areas.

Contribute to report writing, dissemination and publishing of study research work by authoring in various reputable scientific journals, and supporting dissemination at various internal and external meetings, conferences, workshops and other relevant Scientific forums. Research Officer – Health Systems Evaluation and Data Analytics (2 posts)

Responsibilities: Develop and apply probabilistic record linkage methodologies using data from multiple HDSS sites to assess completeness of birth and death registration. Identify and quantify systematic reporting differences in age-at-death and birth dates in survey and routine data. Conduct analysis of primary household survey data on birth and death registration to understand factors influencing registration practices. Generate reproducible scripts and documentation using Python and spatial/statistical packages. Support geospatially disaggregated analyses to assess implementation strength, equity of access, and quality of care. Contribute to evaluating the impact of maternal and newborn health initiatives. Assist in data harmonization and integration across sites using relational databases and web mapping tools

Research Officer (Evaluating Hospital Workloads & Case-Mix (1 post)

Location: Nairobi

Responsibilities: Address any inconsistencies in the two data sources by triangulating with other sources using clearly articulated and logical processes to create the best. Hospital Capacity’ dataset possible. Hospital Workloads, Case-Mix and Outcomes’ dataset possible. Link Level 4 and Level 5 hospitals in each dataset through specific hospital identifiers and to their geographic location. Create suitable indices of hospital capacity that span important domains for the delivery of services. Develop an approach to aggregate reporting of workload for OPD and Inpatient areas and then for hospitals as a whole. Conduct analyses that explore variations in hospital capacity and workloads and link these to geographic location.

Assistant Research Officer – Epidemiologist/Data Analyst (1 post)

Responsibilities: Compute routine epidemiological indicators, including mortality rates/ratios, effective coverage components, case-mix descriptors, referral patterns, admission severity profiles, and event frequencies. Produce descriptive analyses and outputs for trend assessment, quarterly snapshots, and facility-level dashboards that feed into interrupted time series and counterfactual modelling workflows. Contribute summary statistics to quarterly technical updates and annual reports. Support the implementation science workstream by generating routine process indicators, QI-related summaries, and visualisations for facility feedback. Summarize QI findings, operational disruptions, and facility readiness constraints into structured contextual notes to support process evaluation and interpretation.
