The Product Manager for MySQL is responsible for the inbound and outbound product management efforts. Working closely with engineering teams, the goal is to further MySQL adoption as well as Percona’s continued commercial success as a leader in the MySQL space.
You will collaborate with customers, partners, other product managers and tech leads at Percona, translating the product vision into a compelling strategy and roadmap that engineering can feasibly implement. You will balance time and scope to ensure that we are delivering value to Percona’s customers and community.
What You Will Do
- Establish the MySQL product strategy so that it complements the overall corporate and product vision.
- Translate this strategy into easy-to-consume roadmaps to bring a product to life.
- Identify product and market opportunities through customer, community, and stakeholder interactions, e.g., conducting surveys or contacting existing customers directly to understand exactly what they are looking for.
- Collaborate with other Product Managers to ensure alignment of our tactical plans with the strategic vision, providing complementary product support in a timely manner.
- Build and own the relationships with Services, Community, and Engineering.
- Explore new ways of improving our existing services and products.
What You Have Done
- Developed a strong understanding of MySQL or other open-source databases and an eagerness to bring that experience to improving Percona’s OSS and commercial offerings.
- Product management with enterprise IT software, including experience shipping products.
- Demonstrated a strong understanding of customers’ business challenges and needs and how those translate to products that delight the customer.
- Proven technical background in software development or operations.
- Experience in working with inter-departmental stakeholders to successfully develop and deliver software products and solutions.
- Ability to lead without requiring authority to be given first, breaking down barriers and driving improvement across functions.
- Excellent work ethic, self-motivated and self-managed, strong organizational skills & ability to meet deadlines.
- Language skills: English fluently, additional languages appreciated.
- Exceptional communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation skills, including public speaking skills.
- Willing to travel occasionally on business (as travel conditions permit).
- Depending on your home time zone, willingness to adjust your working schedule on occasion to accommodate video calls with customers in different countries.

2. Redis/Valkey Database Engineer

Percona is joining forces with the Linux Foundation to support the Valkey project and offer a true open-source Redis alternative. If you are passionate about all things Redis/Valkey, love helping customers succeed, and want to play a critical role in evolving technical support for open-source databases, Percona’s Redis/Valkey Support Engineer position was made for you.
You’ll be teaming up with some of the most well-known open-source database experts in the industry who are even better teammates, friends and mentors. Whilst evolving Percona’s in-house knowledge of Valkey, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your own skills and become more powerful than you can possibly imagine… with databases.
This is not a boring, entry-level role where you’ll just be triaging the boring and monotonous. Your main responsibility will be helping our customers’ DBA teams when they need expert assistance. You’ll do that by gathering relevant data and investigating issues to provide a detailed analysis of your findings in a digestible format by email, instant message or voice. For more serious and production-impacting issues, you’ll perform screen-sharing sessions to help them quickly navigate and resolve issues.
When you’re not fixing things, you’ll be authoring new blog posts on interesting topics for our open-source community to digest, answering questions on our forum, creating new articles in our customer-facing knowledge base for more frequently seen issues, and hosting webinars amongst other things.
This is a remote role, so you can be located anywhere in the world. All you need is a decent, stable internet connection.
You’ll stand out if you have the following:
- Good knowledge of Redis/Valkey and related technologies on Linux, including:
- All aspects of configuration and best practices
- Performance tuningBackup solutions
- Maintaining clusters and replication environments
- Detailed understanding of monitoring requirements
- Demonstrable experience in administering Linux-based systems
- Knowledge about environments such as VMWare, Docker and/or Kubernetes
- Knowledge about cloud providers (AWS, Google Cloud, Digital Ocean and/or Azure)
- Ability to troubleshoot methodically, identifying and applying fixes for known errors, and when necessary, capacity to think outside of the box to resolve complex issues
- Enthused to expand your skill set with new technologies as the industry continues to evolve
- Availability to travel for the occasional team meetings, conferences and customer visits
- Experience working with customers in English

Percona seeks a talented and dynamic senior C++ software engineer to join its software development team. You will be crucial in designing, developing, and optimizing new features for our Percona Server for MongoDB (PSMDB). You will also collaborate closely with the team building Percona Backup for MongoDB and other teams focused on enhancing the value of PSMDB. We have big ambitions for bringing innovative enterprise-grade functionality to the MongoDB community and are looking for the right person to bring energy and optimism to the team!
Your role at Percona
- Collaborate with a geographically distributed team to design and implement new features that extend PSMDB’s core functionality.
- Analyze and enhance MongoDB’s performance by working with storage engines (e.g., WiredTiger), developing optimizations for high-throughput environments, and debugging performance bottlenecks.
- Participate in code reviews to ensure high-quality software. Engage with the broader MongoDB open-source community by submitting and reviewing pull requests (PRs) and addressing issues the community raises.
- Work closely with product managers, QA teams, and community contributors to shape PSMDB’s roadmap and prioritize features that bring the most outstanding value.
- Build robust and resilient database solutions focusing on ensuring data integrity, fault tolerance, and high availability across distributed systems.
- Contribute to upstream projects we leverage to bring our solutions to the community.
- Blog, present, and evangelize our software to help increase adoption and keep our thriving community growing
- Engage with other departments in Percona to ensure we’re delivering value-driven solutions.
What will help you succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in C++ development and object-oriented design
- Strong understanding of NoSQL databases and large-scale distributed systems, preferably MongoDB
- Strong knowledge of compression and encryption algorithms and techniques
- Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery tools such as Jenkins, CircleCI, and Travis
- Experience with high concurrency threading models, atomics, and locking primitives
- Knowledge of various programming and scripting languages such as BASH, JavaScript, and Python
- Working with tools like profiler, gdb, and strace for debugging

- Deep and hands-on experience with memory management, multithreading, and system-level programming
