Role purpose
The Senior Specialist IP Planning & Engineering plays a pivotal role in the strategic planning, high-level design, and optimization of the organization’s IP network infrastructure. The role demands proactive leadership in network planning, ensuring seamless integration of new technologies while maintaining high network availability and regulatory compliance. This role focuses on ensuring efficient, scalable, and secure IP connectivity for data, voice, and multimedia services across the network. The Senior Specialist leads complex projects, provides technical mentorship, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and enhance network performance.
Key accountabilities and decision ownership
- Develop IP network strategies and roadmap aligned with business objectives and future technology trends. Conduct capacity assessments, evaluate technology options, and design IP network solutions to support the organization’s requirements.
- Provide HLD/LLDs and troubleshoot technical problems during the testing, migration, and integration stage, ensuring that proper handover documentation is also provided to the Operational Team under the umbrella of the Technology Operations.
- Proactively lead the engineering design process for IP network infrastructure, including IP routing, switching, and addressing schemes. Develop detailed engineering designs, specifications, and documentation.
- Manage IP address space, including allocation, assignment, and utilization tracking. Implement IP addressing schemes and ensure adherence to best practices for IP address management.
- Conduct ongoing capacity planning to anticipate growth and optimize network investments (CAPEX).
- Collaborate with the network security team to ensure that IP network designs and configurations meet security requirements. Implement appropriate IP security measures, such as access control lists (ACLs), firewalls, and intrusion prevention systems.
- Decision-making on network expansion, vendor selection, and technology investments.
Core competencies, knowledge, and experience
- In-depth knowledge of IP networking protocols, including IPv4 and IPv6, routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, IS-IS), MPLS, Segment Routing, VPN and Software Defined Network technologies.
- Strong understanding of mobile and fixed technologies (standard and non-standard) across the Consumer and Business customer base.
- Extensive experience in network capacity planning, traffic engineering, and network automation.
- Experience with IP network planning and optimization tools, network simulation software, and performance monitoring tools.
- Strong analytical skills for capacity planning, forecasting, and cost optimization of network infrastructure.
- Strong leadership, mentorship, and stakeholder management skills to influence technical decisions across teams.
Must have technical/ professional qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- Cisco CCNP/CCIE (Enterprise, Service Provider, Security) certification or equivalent.
- Experience with network automation (Python, Ansible, Terraform, Netconf, REST APIs).
- Familiarity with network security principles and best practices for securing IP networks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop innovative solutions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendors.
