Job Overview

To work closely with Senior Child Protection Manager, Head of department -Gender Diversity Social Inclusion and project director to ensure the quality implementation of Gender project activities in the field.

Location – Western, Rift Valley

Rank – Field Staff

Section – Member/ Client Services

Department – Essential Services- Gender

Reports to – Head of Gender

Direct reports – Gender and Inclusion Program Officer

Work Pattern/Hours – Monday – Friday | 8.00 AM – 5.00PM


Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Project Management

      • Lead on case management activities and supervise program officers and team case workers) including coordinating and sharing county specific data MEL-using Commcare system.
      • Develop annual work plans and Budgets for the regions for effective project implementation.
      • Write timely and high-quality analytical reports
      • Train teams on Gender and Inclusion Case management protocol/SOP and ensure adherence of the same in all stages of the interventions.
      • Prepare weekly/monthly activity plans with line staff as necessary and ensure smooth implementation of these plans.
      • Set up/strengthen child protection activities in the designated counties-,ROC/Safe spaces sessions in and out of school.
      • Track project targets, monitoring and evaluation and ensuring measurement of achievements towards project goals for their counties and linkages to the big project targets.
      • Disseminate project information by preparing timely and regular programme reports.
      • Supervise the record keeping of the organization and making sure that appropriate and accurate documentation is provided to MEL and department.
      • Responsible for field financial tracking in collaboration with the IIVC project accountant and ensuring financial and procurement compliance with donor and SHOFCO regulations
      • Assess local level risks associated with programme implementation, propose and implement mitigation strategies.

Coordination Responsibility and Team management

      • Provide supportive supervision to project team and in collaboration with the Senior Child protection manager.
      • Coordinate and facilitate project learning agenda in collaboration with MEL.
      • Ensuring effective problem solving, leadership and team work of the field project staff.
      • Work with the teams to capacity gender champions work, including training, holding sub county S/GBV community conversations, conduct awareness on Sexual Gender based violence and linking survivors/ children to available services.
      • Set up/support and monitor Child Protection Help Desks to identify, support and refer children with protection concerns.

Partnership Engagement and Representation

      • Representation of SHOFCO as necessary at County level i.e. County coordination meetings, relevant TWGs etc and negotiate with local authorities when necessary.
      • Perform other functions relative to IIVC project and initiatives that may be assigned by Line Manager.
      • Ensure strong partnership with the county and sub county authorities
      • Ensure coordination and integration of activities and tasks among various stakeholder present on the ground for better utilization of resources and avoidance of duplication of effects.
      • Coordinating with other partners and departments at county level to harness synergies.
      • Reporting and maintaining working relationships with local government and partner agencies and NGOs (as applicable).
      • Representing the project to relevant local authorities and organisations Support Programme operations at Regional level
      • Responsibility over data or information: Has access to important information as regards to programme, its budget and the general trend and performance, and shares with SHOFCO.
      • Responsibility over assets for the Regional Gender department: Proper management of financial resources, equipment and programme utilities, office equipment, and computers.
      • Responsibility over staff: Management responsibility over field staff.
      • Assist in the identification and procurement of materials field activities including support to partners.
      • Coordinate with Logistics to ensure timely and safe delivery of supplies allocated to field activities
      • Adhere to safeguarding policy and report where necessary

Education Qualifications

Academic Qualification:

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, Gender Studies or related field of studies.

Professional Qualification:

      • Additional training in child protection work.
      • Trainer by profession in life planning skills, gender issues, SRH and young mentor will be added advantage.

Other required qualifications (unique/job specific):

      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Interviewing and Note taking skills
      • Respect confidentiality standards and the dignity of beneficiaries, demonstrating and safeguarding ethics and integrity.
      • Familiarity with human rights and gender related protection issues especially focused on violence, exploitation and abuse of girls, boys and women.
      • Excellent organizational skills, independent, disciplined, with initiative and an ability to work under pressure and to prioritize work
      • About 4 years’ experience in case management/child protection.
