
Position : Network Engineer – Dar Es Salaam
We are looking for a Network Engineer.
The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting an organization’s network infrastructure. This role involves working with network hardware, software, and protocols to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability of the network. The Network Engineer will work closely with IT teams to support the deployment of new technologies, troubleshoot network issues, and ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the organization’s network systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Design & Implementation:
- Design and implement scalable, secure, and efficient network infrastructures (LAN, WAN, VPN, etc.).
- Work with stakeholders to gather network requirements, define specifications, and recommend the best solutions to meet business needs.
- Install, configure, and maintain network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) and software (network operating systems, monitoring tools, etc.).
Network Monitoring & Troubleshooting:
- Monitor the health and performance of the network using network monitoring tools and proactively identify and resolve issues before they affect users.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network-related problems, including connectivity issues, bandwidth problems, and network outages. o Provide support for both local and remote network configurations, ensuring connectivity and performance.
Security & Risk Management:
- Implement network security measures (firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection systems) to protect the organization’s network infrastructure from unauthorized access and cyber threats. o Perform regular network security audits and vulnerability assessments, making improvements as needed.
- Apply security patches and updates to network devices and systems.
Network Performance Optimization:
- Continuously monitor and optimize network performance by adjusting network configurations, analyzing traffic patterns, and upgrading devices when necessary.
- Work on improving network throughput, reducing latency, and ensuring reliable access for all network users.
- Plan and implement network scalability and capacity upgrades as business needs evolve.
Collaboration & Support:
- Collaborate with other IT teams to deploy network infrastructure for various internal and external services (data centers, remote offices, cloud services, etc.).
- Provide technical support and guidance to users and other IT teams on network-related issues.
- Train and mentor junior network engineers and other IT staff on network configuration, troubleshooting, and security best practices.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date network documentation, including network diagrams, configuration settings, and troubleshooting guides.
- Prepare network performance reports and summaries for senior management, highlighting any issues, improvements, or changes made to the network infrastructure.
- Document network incidents and problems for further analysis and continuous improvement.
Vendor & Third-Party Coordination:
- Work with vendors and third-party service providers to procure networking equipment, software, and support services.
- Manage vendor relationships and coordinate warranty claims or service requests for faulty network equipment.
Disaster Recovery & Backup:
- Assist in the development and implementation of network disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity in the event of a network failure.
- Regularly test network backup systems to ensure they are functioning correctly.

Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Certifications:
- Networking certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Network+, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Juniper Networks Certification are highly desirable.
- Additional certifications in network security, cloud networking, or specialized network management tools (e.g., AWS Certified Advanced Networking) are a plus.
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in network engineering, network support, or a similar role.
- Hands-on experience with routing, switching, and wireless technologies.
- Experience in network performance optimization, troubleshooting, and fault isolation.
- Strong knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, and VPN technologies.
- Familiarity with cloud networking solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is a plus. • Skills: o Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, access points, etc.).
- Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices.
- Knowledge of network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios) and network management software.
- Proficient in network troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with network load balancing, Quality of Service (QoS), and VLAN configuration.
- Ability to work with diverse technologies such as IPv6, MPLS, and SD-WAN.
- Strong documentation skills and the ability to produce clear technical reports.
