CNN correspondent Larry Madowo shared brief recordings of how he was surrounded by fans in Michigan. Many of the fans were surprised by the Kenyan-born journalist when they saw him on the streets of Michigan. Some wondered if he was at work, as some used the chance to take photos with the media celebrity.
This was an unexpected moment for Larry.
Some followers voiced their amazement upon meeting him in person, with one saying:
“This is Larry. Oh my God! This is him. Are you at work?”
Previously, the media personality voiced disappointment after being barred from attending a recent consultation meeting between the National Police Service (NPS) and Kenyan news editors.
The Wednesday, August 14 discussion focused on improving police-media relations through collaboration.
According to a social media announcement from the NPS, acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli chaired the discussions.
Key personalities and journalists such as Zubeida Kananu, president of the Kenya Editors Guild, and Eric Oduor, secretary general of the Kenya Union of Journalists, were there.
Madowo expressed his outrage with his exclusion on social media, especially because he had been directly targeted by police officers while documenting protests in Kenya. He noted that, despite their large presence in the city, no one from CNN’s Nairobi bureau or any foreign journalist working in Nairobi was invited to the meeting. He also questioned the decision to speak with senior editors rather than field reporters who had witnessed police aggressiveness during protests.
