A dormitory at Njia Boys Secondary School in Igembe, Meru County, was engulfed in flames, resulting in the destruction of property worth millions.
Footage shows intense fire consuming the Jamhuri Dormitory as firefighters and locals attempted to extinguish it. Police officers were present at the scene, coordinating efforts as wellwishers helped by bringing water in buckets.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that emergency services responded quickly and were actively battling the blaze.
Njia Boys Secondary School, a public extra-county institution located in Maua town, Meru County, did not report any injuries or casualties from the fire at the time of this report. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
This is not the first fire incident at the school. In 2019, a tragic fire occurred, resulting in the death of a student whose remains were discovered after a roll call the following day.
The Njia Boys fire incident comes just a day after another fire broke out at Isiolo Girls High School and Hillside Endarasha Academy, tragically claiming the lives of 21 students.
These incidents have raised concerns about the increasing number of fires during the third term of the school year. Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang recently ordered the strict enforcement of a ban on school activities and visiting. It is unclear if the fires are linked to this directive.
