Morara Kebaso, 28 has become well-known in Kenya for his dedication to advancing civic education and pushing for transparency and accountability in the Kenyan government. His recognition came from his videos that went viral on social media as he mimicked President William Ruto. He has been traveling across different counties, capturing and sharing videos of unfinished projects initiated by President William Ruto and financed with public funds.
Early Life and Education
- Background:
- Morara Kebaso was born in Kisii to a young mother who was still attending high school. His family has a notable political history, with his grandfather, George Kebaso, having served as a Member of Parliament for West Mogirango, and his great-uncle, John Kebaso, being the first senator of Kisii during the early years after independence.
- Raised by his aunt while his mother completed her studies, Morara excelled in his education, attending a local primary school and later enrolling at Maseno School, where he was recognized for his talents in drama and music.
- Challenges in School:
- Despite his academic success, Morara’s strong-willed personality led to conflicts with school authorities. His opposition to certain practices, such as the treatment of prefects, ultimately resulted in his expulsion.
- Reflecting on this period, Morara shared, “When I got involved in student activism, I found myself out of the system. I had to hustle, but I realized the importance of going back to school.”

Diverse Career Path
- Early Ventures:
- Before establishing himself in the business world, Morara tried various jobs to make a living. He engaged in small-scale businesses, including selling avocados, running a hotel in Kawangware, and teaching mathematics and physics at Kabiru Secondary School.
- Morara also explored different entrepreneurial ventures, such as running a wines and spirits business, online writing, selling insurance, and dealing in land.
- Entrepreneurial Success:
- Today, Morara is a successful businessman, running a furniture company that employs 85 people across multiple branches in Kenya. “I run a business called Morara Furnitures. We have branches in Nairobi’s Utawala, along Kangundo Road, in Eldoret Annex, and in Bamburi, Mombasa,” Morara explained.
Morara Kebaso’s journey from a challenging childhood to becoming a lawyer and entrepreneur is a testament to his resilience and determination. His ongoing efforts to enhance civic awareness and hold the government accountable have made him a notable figure in Kenya.
